We’re delighted to let customers know that our two fundraising initiatives for 2016 raised more than £500 for charity.

Angels’ Share Glass has donated £385 to Poppy Scotland and £125 to Diabetes UK thanks to our generous customers!

Each year we raise money for Poppy Scotland via our limited run of Poppy Whisky Angels during the approach to Armistice Day.

They feature one of our signature Angels holding the iconic poppy and are a poignant tribute to the thousands of men and women who have sacrificed their lives over the years.

They’re a lovely keepsake and 50% of their £40 price goes to Poppy Scotland to help ex-members of the Armed Forces and their families.

The second charity we supported this year was Diabetes UK – a charity which has a special place in the heart of Managing Director Karen Somerville whose nine-year-old son suffers from Type 1 Diabetes.

Karen came up with a unique plan to treat Black Friday and Cyber Monday a little differently from most companies this year.

Instead of offering customers a discount, the firm donated 20% from every purchase made during those two days to Diabetes UK and specifically its Scottish arm Diabetes Scotland.

Karen also wrote a poignant personal blog about the reality of living with the condition - which affects four million people across the UK – on a day to day basis.

In it, she highlighted the help and support her family and others receive from Diabetes Scotland which runs conferences to educate people and provides networks for Scottish families living with Type 1 Diabetes.

Karen says: “I’m proud and pleased that we’ve been able to give something back to these two charities which both carry out a lot of great work across Scotland.

“I also want to thank customers who bought the Poppy Angels and who placed orders on Black Friday and Cyber Monday as a novel way of making a donation rather than looking for a discount.”

Poppy Scotland was established in 1921 to provide life-changing support to the Armed Forces community and raises more than £3 million each year to support veterans and their families living in Scotland.

Gordon Michie, Head of Fundraising at Poppy Scotland, said: “We’re delighted to have the continued support from Angels' Share Glass and their customers.

“So far, they’ve raised more than £780 for Poppy Scotland which is a fantastic achievement.

“Thanks to donations like this, we can make a life-changing difference to those who have served, those still serving and their families who are in desperate need of our help.

“We offer tailored support and funding for the Armed Forces community, including help with employment, mobility, respite and breaks, housing and mental health difficulties.

“Without public donations and the incredible support of businesses like Angels' Share Glass this simply would not be possible.”

Diabetes UK is the leading charity which cares for, connects with and campaigns on behalf of all people affected by diabetes.

During the last ten years, the charity has invested nearly £60 million for research into the condition.

Linda Hamilton, Regional Fundraiser at Diabetes UK, said: “We’d like to extend a warm thanks to everyone at Angels’ Share Glass for their generous fundraising for Diabetes UK.

“Over 280,000 people in Scotland are living with diabetes.  It’s a serious condition which can result in life-limiting complications if people aren’t supported to manage it well.

“Money raised by Angels’ Share Glass will help us continue our work to support people living with the condition and fund research towards better treatments and, eventually, a cure.  Thank you to all the team and everyone who donated.”

The charity has a specific Diabetes Scotland section on its website for Scots with the condition.
