Hogmanay and First Footing Tradition in Scotland

We have a wonderful selection of Christmas and Hogmanay (that's New Year's Eve in Scotland) whisky gifts this year, including hampers, hot toddy sets and whisky droppers. Our most popular by far, however, are our Glass Baubles and Whisky Angels, which make the perfect small present or stocking filler for any whisky fan. They are especially appropriate as a ’first footing’ gift on Hogmanay.

As the New Year’s Eve tradition goes, the first person - or ‘first foot’ - to pass over the threshold to the home after midnight should present a small offering to the host. Failure to do so is apparently very unlucky!

Historically, a lump of coal and dram of whisky were given. Nowadays, there’s a distinct lack of coal fires in many households, so most people would probably forgo a carbonised black rock! Our baubles and angels are really great alternatives to suggest to your customers to take along to their Hogmanay celebrations.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your custom throughout 2016 and wish you the very best over the forthcoming festive period. We hope you have enjoyed a prosperous year and we look forward to an even bigger, better 2017 together. Slainte!
