The Scotch Whisky Advent Calendar - Door Number 11

Each day in December until Christmas Day we are opening a door on The Scotch Whisky Advent Calendar and posting our tasting notes on our blog.

The Scotch Whisky Advent Calendar Door Number 11 Kumquat Cluster Wemyss Malts

Another wee dram from Weymss Malts popped out of door number 11. This one has the intriguing moniker of Kumquat Cluster and is a 1993 Glenrothes 21yo from a butt. It's at 46%, as is the norm with these guys.

On the nose you get an initial wave of fudge followed by lime peel and barley. There's some oak and kiwi fruit with more cereal notes.

On the palate there's orange oil, peaches in syrup and a suggestion of toffee.

The finish is all chocolate orange with some drying spices at the end.

With water the cereals come to the fore on the nose and it smells very biscuity. The palate becomes very light and lacks the richness of before and the finish too. Would recommend drinking it as it is.

This is a fairly delicate dram, as you might expect from Speyside, and is something you could easily drink all night. Of course we recommend you drink this, and all the whiskies, responsibly!
