We’re proud to let you know our talented co-founder Tom Young has been honoured with yet another award for his fantastic glassmaking!
This time Tom was recognised by peers at the prestigious British Society of Scientific Glassblowers with an award recognising his outstanding contribution to glassblowing. He was presented with the accolade – his third award in the past year – by the Society’s chair Robert McLeod at a celebratory lunch.
Tom says: “I thought I was just going out to enjoy a lunch with some fellow glassblowers to celebrate receiving my MBE and was surprised and delighted when Robert presented me with a lovely glass award. “It’s amazing to be recognised by the Society in this way and I’m very proud of this honour.”
Mr McLeod said: “This is a well-deserved award in recognition of all Tom has done for the glassmaking industry. “He has been a member of the BSSG for many years and was instrumental in the formation of the Scottish Section of the Society. “Over the years he has been a dedicated professional and has been inspirational in helping young people into the craft.”
Tom was awarded an MBE to mark his long service to the glassmaking industry in the New Year Honours list and last year he was honoured with the Provost’s Award for Arts and Culture by Stirling Council. Glassmaking is his passion in life and is something he has enjoyed – and continues to enjoy – during a career which has spanned 60 years.
He also passed his love of glass onto his daughter - Angels’ Share Glass co-founder Karen Somerville - and together they have created some amazing products. These include a signature range of whisky-filled glass angels and award-winning whisky water droppers.

Meanwhile, the firm is gearing up to open a new glassmaking studio at its Bridge of Allan headquarters. This will ensure more of Tom and Karen’s beautiful products can be created in the heart of Scotland.
