The Scotch Whisky Advent Calendar - Door Number 7

Each day in December until Christmas Day we are opening a door on The Scotch Whisky Advent Calendar and posting our tasting notes on our blog.

Samaroli are the bottlers of the whisky behind door number 7. It's a 1997 Strathisla 18yo and is bottled at 45%.

On the nose there's cut grass and honey with a touch of lemon peel. It's a light, gentle dram, probably more suited for sipping under an olive tree in Tuscany than being battered by a storm in Scotland!

On the palate we get sherbet lemons with honey and wood notes. There's a complexity there but it's subtle and teases.

The finish has cloves and more honey, lemon and a hint of ginger. This would make an excellent hot toddy, come to thing of it!

I'm not going to add any water because it is delicate as it is.

This is a very similar whisky to yesterday's, which isn't surprising given the same casks used, but this one is a touch more refined and less punchy.
