We first visited Arran in 2015 as intrepid first-time family campers and got blown away in a tent on Seal Shore. However, it did not stop us from falling in love with this beautiful island.

We returned in 2016 for the Arran Malts Festival and showed off our glassblowing talent during the festival celebrations. We also picked up the highly sought after Festival bottling. The 2016 festival release was a very smartly boxed Sherry Hogshead 50% ABV and with only 198 bottles we managed to polish one off fairly quickly and have kept one for the collection.

This summer we missed the festival by a week and so visited the Island after the rush and managed to get a first-hand tour of the new Lagg Distillery. It is fair to say that Arran's new build distillery does not fail to impress. The Lamborghini sat out front was also an eye-catcher for visitors, not sure it endured the Arran roads home, however, the distillery is in production and aims to bottle in 9 ¾ years time.

The new make was available to taste by our local tour guide Robbie and surprisingly was sweet and smooth, very pleasant indeed but at 63% it was only a sip. The Fingal Machrie Moor edition which was distilled at Lochranza Distillery was on hand to give visitors a taste of things to come from Arran Whisky.

The Distillery sits on the South of the Island with amazing views to Campbeltown (the smallest of Scotlands five Whisky regions) and the famous Ailsa Craig is framed in many of the perfectly placed windows. The warehouses sit hardly noticed in the landscape and a full orchard of apple trees have been planted in the plans to produce their own Apple brandy in approximately 5 years time.

Arran Whisky

As a company we were delighted to supply the glass quaichs for the newly formed Cask Society. You can reserve your cask of Lagg Distillery for around £6k and to mark their membership were gifted with a Cask Society Quaich.

All in all, Arran's Lagg Distillery is worth a visit and gives the south side of the island a notable gem.  One thing which may have to be addressed though is Arrans roads, definitely not accessible for the average Lamborghini.

Our beautiful glass quaichs are perfect gifts and can can be found here
