This week marks a very poignant time for all of us as Armistice Day is once again upon us, and we take time to pause and reflect on the dedication and sacrifices made by the members of our armed forces, both serving and who have served in the past.
That’s why this year, we will once again be proudly supporting Poppy Scotland and The Scottish Poppy Appeal. Each year, as part of the appeal, five million poppies are made and distributed across Scotland by the charity’s legion of devoted volunteers. Every single one of these symbolic flowers, as well as some 10,000 poppy wreaths, are handmade by a small number of disabled veterans throughout the year, in order to be sent to shops, businesses and schools, in villages and towns ahead of our day of remembrance.
As well as street collections, the charity organises a wide variety of activities with the aim of raising as much money as possible to help those who have served, those still serving, and their families at times of crisis and need. As a distinct charity within The Royal British Legion group of charities, Poppy Scotland is 100% reliant on public donations in order to continue their life changing work, offering vital, practical advice, assistance and funding to active service personnel and veterans.
In 2015 we developed a very special range of beautiful handmade poppy glassware, which includes bestselling Poppy Angels and Poppy whisky droppers, in recognition of the work of our Armed Forces and to ensure that future generations remember their sacrifices. With every item purchased from this collection, we donate 100% of retail profits to Poppy Scotland to aid in their incredible ongoing efforts. Like each poppy created by our veterans, every one of our glassware products are handmade in Scotland. In 2017 the Angels’ Share Glass team visited Lady Haig’s Poppy Factory in Edinburgh to meet ex-service personnel and get a first hand look at how each of the five million poppies are made each year. You can view the video of our visit below.
