The Scotch Whisky Advent Calendar - Door Number 12

Each day in December until Christmas Day we are opening a door on The Scotch Whisky Advent Calendar and posting our tasting notes on our blog.

Happy 12th of December! We're kind of at the halfway point so here's a wee blend for a change today in the shape of Bank Note 5yo from AD Rattray.It comes in at 43%.

On the nose there's barley sugars and vanilla, some brown sugar, tropical fruits and a delicate grassy note. It's sweet, fragrant and inviting.

On the palate we have a gentle, sweet whisky, but there's flickers of complexity in there. Banana Chewits (remember them?), brown sugar and something green and vegetal. Nicely balanced.

The finish is smooth and syrupy. More of that sweet, ripe banana and a slight wood bitterness to balance it out.

This is a fine blend with enough going on in the mix to keep even the most hardened malt drinkers happy. Definitely something to start the evening with at least.
