The Scotch Whisky Advent Calendar - Door Number 22

Each day in December until Christmas Day we are opening a door on The Scotch Whisky Advent Calendar and posting our tasting notes on our blog.

The Malt Whisky Co. have provided today's dram. It's a 1994 Tobermory 21yo at 57.3%. Interestingly, the label states that it has been in both a bourbon and a sherry cask.

On the nose there's an initial grape note, followed by Christmas cake and red apple peel. There's a hint of bubblegum, toffee...oh, toffee apple! Remember fruity Toffo sweets? Definitely reminding me of those, from many moons ago...

On the palate the toffee comes through but the fruit is more orange now. There's a touch of tobacco and treacle too. There's plenty of spice coming through and a taste of linseed. 

The finish is long with salted caramel and a dusting of cocoa. A touch of charred wood finishing things off.

With water the nose becomes less fruity and more of the toffee is apparent with a touch of treacle. The palate is pretty much the same and the finish is a little shorter a a touch drying on the gums.

A hearty, winter warmer which gives both sweetness and fruitiness from the two cask being used.
